I brought in my father's old Seiko that hadn't run in years. The team spent time asking about it before doing anything, which was unexpected but appreciated. When they returned it, the movement was running cleanly and the dial had been gently cleaned — nothing over-restored. It looks like it did in old family photographs.

The quartz service was straightforward and the price matched what I was told at the start — no additions. My watch came back clean and running well. I did have to wait about a week, which was longer than I expected, but the result was fine and I have no complaints about the communication during that time.

I booked the service and strap selection appointment and came away with my automatic serviced and a cordovan leather strap I would not have chosen myself but immediately liked. The technician explained what he had found in the movement — some unusual wear near one of the keyless work components — and showed me what they had replaced. That level of transparency is not something I have experienced before.

I was nervous bringing my grandmother's dress watch in — it is not valuable in monetary terms, but it is to me. They were careful to say what they thought could be done and what should be left alone. They cleaned the movement, replaced a worn mainspring, and returned it running at a rate I was told to expect from a watch of that age. No attempt to make it run like a new piece.

As someone who moved from Europe and wasn't sure where to take my watches in Bangkok, finding Lotus Hour was a relief. The communication was clear in English, the timing estimate was accurate, and they flagged a hairspring issue I hadn't noticed without pushing me to address it immediately. I went back two months later for the fuller service.

I arranged a drop-off and collection around a business trip. The watch was ready in the agreed window and they held it for me without issue when my return was delayed by a day. The service itself — a full movement job — was well done. The watch is running more consistently than it has in several years.

Three Watches, Three Situations

The Situation

A 1970s dress watch, not running

The client had inherited a thin dress watch from an uncle. The movement had not run in at least eight years. The dial showed light foxing and the crown was stiff. The client wanted to wear it occasionally and understood it would not perform like a modern watch.

The Work

Full movement service — disassembly, cleaning, fresh oils, new mainspring. The crown was freed and a new seal fitted. The dial was gently cleaned, which improved the foxing without removing all evidence of age. Case lightly buffed by hand only in areas where the finish was already broken.

The Outcome

The watch now runs at approximately +8 seconds per day — reasonable for its age and design. The client wears it to formal occasions. Total time from intake to collection: 12 working days.

"I thought it might be beyond help. It was not."

The Situation

A daily quartz — battery changed twice in a year

A client brought in a daily-wear quartz that had had its battery replaced elsewhere twice within twelve months, each time with short battery life following. The watch was also losing time inconsistently.

The Work

Inspection revealed contact corrosion from an exhausted battery left too long during a prior service interval. The corroded contacts were cleaned, the circuit checked, and a fresh cell of the correct specification fitted. The case was cleaned and the gaskets renewed.

The Outcome

The watch has since run without issue over nine months. Battery life is back to expected duration for the movement. Total time: 6 working days.

"They found the actual cause, not just the obvious one."

The Situation

A mechanical watch, serviced but not right

A client came in with an automatic watch that had been serviced elsewhere three months prior but was still losing fifteen minutes per day. The previous service had been charged in full.

The Work

Assessment found the balance wheel regulation had not been set following reassembly, and an incorrect lubricant had been applied to the escapement. The movement was cleaned of the incorrect oil, lubricated correctly, and regulated. We declined to charge a full service price given the nature of the correction.

The Outcome

The watch now runs at +4 seconds per day on the wrist. The client understood what had gone wrong in the prior service and chose to bring their second watch to us the following month.

"Honest about what the other shop had done. Did not overcharge for fixing it."
